Projection Photography Exhibit by Celebrity Photographer Rohan Shrestha

Diesel India hosts the first projection photography exhibit by celebrity photographer Rohan Shrestha at their Juhu flagship store in Mumbai as a part of its Diesel + Art initiative.

Inspired by Japan, the cherry blossom, or Sakura, and Japanese aesthetic: Rohan’s debut solo exhibition is a result of his love for photography and passion to experiment. In search of the Sakura, the artist visited Kyoto, Japan in 2015. Intrigued by the colour palette of cherry blossom and its uncanny similarity with an infrared image, the young artist decided to assay with a coloured and converted infrared camera. The ethereal images shot in Shinjuku Gyoen garden in Tokyo, Kyoto and Koyasan were published in National Geographic Traveller. But the artist’s penchant for all things ‘cool’ further led him to blend two styles of photography, completely different from each other, into one. By combining images of the Sakura projected on an Indian model, Rohan embarked on projection photography.

This young artist’s love for Japan took him back there again in the autumn of the same year. This time, he shot in Kamakura, an hour away from Tokyo by rail. He captured Japanese temples and monasteries through photographic techniques of zoom burst and rotational slow shutter.
