Mobilyze to figure out depression on your smart phone

These days our smartphones are more like our friends or companions. They stay with us all the time and tell us whatever we want to know. Literally it keeps you entertained while you are really bored in some waiting line or area. It tells you about the weather forecast. It’s simply amazing because it does so many things.

The applications and games for smart phones is really awesome. Now there is also an application for smartphones which will tell you whether you’re depressed or not. It will also give you a mood analysis. Depression has become a really big disease these days and it should be treated well before it gets out of hand. Due to crazy work pressure and also the fast paced lives that we have the stress levels have increased so much that they often result in depressions.
These algorithms would include people’s location, activity, social context, what they’re doing, and their mood, in order to determine whether they are behaving normally or if they seem depressed. If the smartphone concludes that the person is depressed, it will help the individual alert family and friends. "It can provide them an automated text message, or an automated phone call to make a suggestion to give somebody a call or get out of the house," Mohr said.
Mobilyze uses data from sensors already embedded in smartphones, such as GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and accelerometers. The goal is to use this data to develop an automated system to detect people’s moods, which could be helpful to those who are prone to ignoring symptoms of depression. This isn’t the only type of mobile technology geared toward health, human emotions, and mood. An app called MoodKit also uses cognitive-therapy techniques to improve people’s moods by offering more than 150 mood-lifting activities with tips and examples.

A smartphone is not just a phone anymore; it is more like a friend or a companion. The kind of applications it has, it does everything for you. Entertain you when you’re bored and tell you about the weather forecast and facebook updates.
