Wardha Saleem launches “JHIRKI“ at Pantene Hum Showcase 2019

The House of Wardha Saleem launches a new label “JHIRKI” - an initiative to revive the antiquated crafts and techniques of the sub-continent with special focus on Hand-Wood Block Printing. Hand-block printing is an ancient technique and the skills have been passed down through the generations. The skilled craftsman uses hand carved wooden blocks, to trace the background or outline, then employs filler blocks for geometric and floral motifs.

JHIRKI, which means a House Sparrow in Sindhi Language, focuses on preservation, production and promotion of indigenous crafts to create timeless pieces with fine regard of detail.

Wardha Saleem started her career with Hand block Prints in 2004 in a small studio comprising of craftsmen who created handcrafted textile products through specialised skills of block printing, embroidery and appliqué. She held her first Block Printing exhibition in 2005 and continued till the Wardha Saleem brand was officially launched in 2009. With JHIRKI, we go back to our roots and embrace this tradition with a strong vision of supporting the artisans through this craft.

Launching at the Hum Showcase, the Spring- Summer 2019 collection comprises of bespoke Hand Block and Screen Prints on pure silks, organza and chiffons with heritage embroideries & multiples age old techniques on modern silhouettes to create the ultimate taste of fusion in Wardha Saleem’s own signature style.
