The Fundraisers hosted their annual and much anticipated Bargain Basement Sale (BBS), #fundraisersBBS, in Lahore at The Nishat Hotel, and raised a record breaking of over PKR 4.5 million for charity – almost twice the amount that the team raised in 2014.
This year’s annual sale brought together over 130 of the most coveted Pakistani and international fashion and lifestyle brands , all of whom had generously donated items to be sold at the #BBS for heavily discounted prices. Clothing items ranged from high end couture, bridals, semi-formal, to pret a porter pieces, and the sale also featured jewellery pieces, art, furniture and home accessories. In this regard Fashion Central Multi Brand Store was a significance contributor.
The Bargain Basement Sale was attended and endorsed by fashion designers including fashion central multi brand store which houses more than 40 designers creations. Also there were social and media personalities. Model, singer and actress Meesha Shafi further supported the event by hosting the live auction.
The purpose of the sale was to raise funds for various charities and causes which are doing good work and need help in raising funds. The team at #fundraisersBBS raised PKR 4.5 million from the sale and the donated sum will be distributed across the following four charities: (a) Pink Ribbon Pakistan for breast cancer; (b) RS (Rising Stars) Foundation for schools in Swat and Uch Sharif; (c) Bali Memorial Trust for earthquake relief and old people’s homes and (d) Chitral Emergency Relief. The event was sponsored by Guard Filters, The Nishat Hotel, Lotus PR and YS Design with FM 89 as the radio partner and Daily Times as the print partner.
On the concept of the sale, The Fundraisers Co-Founder, Nuria Rafique-Iqbal explained “The Fundraisers was founded in 2005 and is made up of a committed team of over 35 volunteers who want to give back to society.
Our Bargain Basement Sale is an innovative concept to counteract donor fatigue– we believe it puts the ‘fun’ back into fundraising and allows people to enjoy themselves while raising money for charity at the same time. In addition, our event creates a platform for the fashion industry to build their corporate social responsibility and reduce wastage. We are absolutely delighted at having doubled our fundraising from last years event to PKR 4.5 Million with just a 1 day sale.
We are now looking to build on our success by taking the #fundraisersBBS to other cities like Karachi and Islamabad, and more importantly, taking it online with an e commerce store where people can buy donated designer items at discount prices with the purchaser being able to decide which cause they would like to support with their purchase.”
