Jemima Goldsmith, the award-winning screenwriter and documentary producer best known internationally as the former wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan, is reportedly set to marry Irish-Australian financier Cameron O’Reilly following a year-long relationship that the couple has kept largely out of the public eye.
The news was first reported by the Daily Mail, which described the engagement as a new chapter for Goldsmith, 52, who has spent recent years heavily focused on campaigning for the release of her former husband, currently imprisoned in Pakistan.
According to the report, Goldsmith and O’Reilly, 62, divide their time between his residence in Switzerland and her home in West London. Friends of the couple described them as “very happy together” and said the relationship had grown naturally out of a period of shared friendship before turning romantic.
Those close to O’Reilly say discretion has been central to how the couple has approached their relationship. He is described as “a very private person and Jemima is determined to protect that,” the Daily Mail reported. O’Reilly brings a formidable professional background to the relationship. An Oxford graduate, he spent a decade working within his father Tony O’Reilly’s media empire, Independent News & Media, before moving to the Australian group APN News and Media, where he served as chief executive until stepping down in 2000. Within three years, he had launched his own private fund and subsequently acquired a Swiss metering company, building a significant independent business career.
For Goldsmith, the engagement comes amid an emotionally demanding period. The daughter of the late billionaire financier Sir James Goldsmith, she has been a vocal and prominent advocate for Imran Khan since his imprisonment, despite the couple having divorced in 2004 after nearly a decade of marriage. Khan is the father of her two sons.
Friends say the prospect of a new beginning with O’Reilly, grounded in shared creative interests and a commitment to privacy, has been welcomed by those closest to her as a genuinely hopeful Development after years marked by turbulence and public scrutiny.
