Pakistani singer/songwriter duo Zeb and Haniya closed the Alchemy Festival at London’s prestigious South Bank Center on Monday April 21st, 2013. Their sold-out performance in the Purcell Room at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, their first-ever live performance in the United Kingdom, was greeted with a standing ovation.
They performed music ranging from Turkish and Dari folk songs to original Urdu compositions from their previous album Chup as well as their upcoming album. They were accompanied by London-based cellist, Francesca Ter-Berg. The Grand Trunk Road Company, an organization committed to promoting artists from South and Central Asia, hosted the Pakistani band.
In the words of one of their reviewers, “We come across some great things, some ok things, and some really not-so-great things but every now and again, there are some moments so extraordinary, that we are brought to wondering if we’ve been ruined for life – that nothing will top this.”
