Dr. Nabiha Ali Khan, a clinical psychologist and former news anchor who has built a digital following through her controversial commentary, is once again at the center of an online storm. She first went viral for her regressive remarks about Pakistani women, which spread quickly across social media. Instead of stepping back, she continued to share similar opinions, keeping herself in the spotlight.
Her recent marriage to colleague Haris Khokhar on November 7 also fueled criticism, especially after she made several public statements about her relationship. Now, Dr. Nabiha is attracting attention for a new comment involving dancer and intersex performer Mehek Malik. She discussed her views on Aroosa Khan’s podcast, where she offered unexpected praise for Malik, despite the backlash that often follows such topics.
During the conversation, Dr. Nabiha said, “I get respect from people who are close to Allah. I admire such people a lot. I want to sit with them. It’s not that you start taking the veil and you become pious or Waliullah — it’s not like that. Stay modern and preach Islam. We used to hear that a time will come when modern people will be Allah’s wali, and they will be preaching Islam. I think this is the time when we can meet people with modern attire who are closer to Allah. I see good attributes in everyone. For example, in Mehek Malik, I have seen multiple good qualities. She is a soft-hearted person who is running so many households. I am not concerned with what she is doing or how she is earning. I have nothing to do with her profession; I only know how many people she is feeding. I am not concerned about her source of earnings. Even Allah says you should not be concerned about others’ lives. They are responsible for their own actions. We are no one to question them.”
Her remarks immediately circulated online, drawing mixed reactions. Some viewers appreciated the message of withholding judgment, while others accused her of trying to soften her public image after months of backlash. As with her earlier statements, the debate shows no signs of slowing down.
