Winter season is a season of joy and celebrations. Variety of seasonal foods in the form of healthy fruits and vegetables form a very important part of this natural palette.

Each season brings a big palette of blessings for the human beings. All the big events like Christmas and New Year come in the months of winter which bring life to the festivities. These festivities are incomplete without good food. Here are few top favorite foods of the winter season.

  • Fish

Fish is an excellent source of Vitamin D. In winter months, the exposure to sun gets very little because of which a deficiency of vitamin D is likely to occur in the body. Therefore, fish is recommended to be eaten regularly during the winters to avoid the deficiency. Moreover, it helps in regulating the mood disorders because it increases the serotonin which is a neurotransmitter responsible for making us feel good about ourselves.

  • Eggs

Eggs are another important tool for overcoming the mood disorders. They contain the omega-3 fatty acids which help in decreasing the depression. Eggs contain certain nutrients that help in the efficient functioning of the brain and they also help in increasing the memory for a longer term.

  • Chocolates

Chocolates are a global favorite and winter season is the best time to eat chocolates. A good quality dark chocolate should be selected and eaten often during the winter months as it contains many antioxidants that are very beneficial for our bodies and brain.

  • Green vegetables

Spinach and green peas contain large amounts of iron which helps in the prevention of anaemia. Iron is very important to keep the body working actively and not letting it feel lethargic or lazy.

  • Water

Water is the most amazing creation of God. It is the best cleanser for our bodies in any season. It helps in hydration of all parts of the body and reduces the level of toxins in our body. The water intake during the winter season should not be reduced as it directly effects on the proper functioning of the body.

  • Cereals

Cereals help in regulating the blood sugar level. They are the prime sources for obtaining fiber and help in reducing the risk of heart diseases. They are very important for the maintaining the overall digestive system. Wholegrain breads, oats, barley and rice etc must be opted during the winter months.

  • Oranges

Oranges are not only a good source of vitamin C but they contain another astonishing thing that is the “folate”. Folate is responsible for maintaining the happy moods in human beings and oranges are an excellent source for getting folate in a good quantity. It helps in the efficient working of the happy chemicals of the brain.

  • Dry fruits and nuts

Nuts are a vital source of selenium that helps to prevent depression amongst human beings. They help in alleviating the mood and sharpening of the memory. Therefore; almonds, walnuts, cashew nuts etc should be taken in good quantity during the winter season.

  • Yogurt

Natural yogurt is very beneficial for the immune system as it contains live bacteria cultures. A bowl of yogurt once a day during the winters is very helpful in preventing infections such as infections due to yeasts etc. Also, it helps in maintain the emotional balance of our minds.

  • Fruit Sugar

Lastly, fruit sugar is another very beneficial item for the winter food palette. It is basically a sugar alternative but natural substance found in fruits and vegetables. One of its major benefits is that it releases the energy in our bodies slowly unlike the natural sugar which keeps us more stable and active for longer hours. Moreover, it does not convert the sugar into fats when it goes into the body!
