Sara Chaudhry Opens Up About Her Divorce for the First Time

Sara Chaudhry, one of Pakistani television’s most beloved actresses of the 2000s, has broken her silence on her divorce in a candid and emotional appearance on Naeem Saqib’s podcast, her first public discussion of the deeply personal matter.

The actor, who shot to fame through the iconic PTV long play Chokhat and went on to star in acclaimed dramas such as Behlawa, Tere Pehlu Main, Malangi, and Tum Kahan Hum Kahan, voluntarily stepped away from the entertainment industry in 2010 after a profound religious awakening.

She subsequently enrolled at the Al-Huda Institute and devoted herself to Islamic preaching and education, a decision that drew widespread admiration but also, as she now reveals, its share of public scrutiny.

When the host asked why her marriage had still ended in separation despite her significant personal transformation and sacrifices, Sara responded with striking honesty.

“Yes, people do say that despite changing everything and leaving showbiz, she still got divorced,” she acknowledged. “These are the rules set by Allah; yes, they are not so appreciated and likable in religion. We should not appreciate, promote, or glorify divorce; we should condemn it. But it is not logical to say that a religious person cannot opt for divorce.”

She went on to explain that the breakdown of her marriage was not the result of a single failing, but rather a gradual and mutual recognition that the relationship had run its course.

“Some things are written in fate; and both the partners have their positives and negatives,” she said. “We tried to keep this relationship work and worked hard to save it, but when we realized it would not go further, we mutually decided to separate.”

Her words have resonated widely on social media, with many praising her for addressing a topic still considered taboo in many Pakistani households with grace, nuance, and religious grounding. Sara, who entered showbiz between 2002 and 2003, remains a respected and influential voice in religious circles to this day.
