Exclusive Interview of Famous Singer Fariha Pervez with Fashion Central

Born with a beautiful voice, Fariha Pervez was destined for fame. She started as an actress and anchor but the music in her was stronger and she emerged as a singer.

Fariha Pervez is a renowned classically trained singer who has achieved fame unlike anyone else. Her debut song Patang Baaz Sajna a.k.a Bo Kata became an instant, massive and an ever lasting hit. With the release of her debut album in 1996, Fariha Pervez became a household name with Patang Baaz becoming her trademark song.

1. How did you get in to music?

I was always into music since my childhood. I never knew that its going to be my destiny. 

2. What does music mean to you?

Music means a lot to me. It makes me who I am. Its peace for the soul and a way to express myself.

3. For our readers please share your career profile with us?

I struggled to become something and God gifted me with the results of my hard work and  I got famous while struggling and it is the best thing happened to me because my work, my music is my passion.

4. Anyone else in your family sings?

My father of course and all of my family members in-fact.

5. Tell us about upcoming tracks in 2014?

There is a lot of things lined up in 2014 which includes a lot of cover songs, a ghazals album, music of my taste and what I like to sing and for my supporters the stuff they’ve been loving and requesting for.

6. Who is your musical inspiration? Your mentor?

My father and my ustad Master Feroz Gill of Gavaliar Gharana.

7. Share your working experience with India?

It was great and highly professional. I loved it. It was short and great. I loved performing it there as a Pakistani artist representing the country.

8. Where do you see your future in music?

I am already there now looking for international scenarios to fulfill my desires. Whatever I am I am grateful to God.

9. What threats you consider in music world that make you seriously think sometimes?

There are a lot of things which are a threat to the industry. I see music channels disappearing because of foreign dramas. Piracy is the biggest threat of all. Music channels are giving more time to foreign music compared to our own.

Same goes for radio channels. Security concerns mean less or no concerts. Issues like these are destructive for the industry and these are needed to be solved as soon as possible otherwise these will damage the industry pretty badly.

10. Which music brand, you like the most? (Band?)

Meekal Hassan band

11. Do you think any other singer copy you?

I don’t think anyone does. I am copying myself and trying to improve day by day.

12. Who do you think is your competitor in music industry?

I am the competitor of myself. Trying to be better than I was yesterday.

13. Any advice for emerging musicians and singers?

15. What does Pakistani music mean to you and where do you see it in future?

Right now can’t say but depends on the country’s scenario and the channels.

Music is a country’s recognition. Whatever the country is going through will definitely affect the industry.

  • Fariha is Adab

  • Down to earth

  • And God gifted

17. How do you deal when faced with criticism by fans?

I used to feel bad before but now I always take it in a positive way to improve myself.

18. CD you played in the car and sung to?

I listen to a lot of different things. A lot of good Pakistani music. Indian as well. Some English music and sometimes Qawwalis. It depends on the mood. Anything melodious will be in my car.

Music

20. Last thing you’d do if the world ended tomorrow?

Will try to give everything every human being asks for in this world

23. Where would you most like to perform?

All over the world because every place has its own charm. The people have their own taste. So it will be a charm no matter where I perform.

24. Do you play any instruments?

 My voice my instrument

25. What genre of music can’t you stand to listen to?

Hard Rock I think 

26. If you weren’t singing, what would you be doing? 

Teaching, social work, anything related to grooming, creativity.
