Losing weight through calorie counting is relatively easy. You won't have to put normal life on hold while calorie counting. In order to lose weight your calorie counting per day should be in negative. To lose 1lb a week you need a negative calorie balance of 500 calories per day. To lose weight at 2lb a week you need to reduce your calorie intake by 1000 calories a day.

How many calories are needed each day can vary greatly depending on lifestyle and other factors. Factors that affect your personal daily calorie needs include your age, height and weight, your basic level of daily activity, and your body composition. Metabolic Rate is the rate at which the body burns up calories. A body that consumes 2500 calories a day, and burns 2500 calories a day will stay at the same weight. A body consuming 2500 calories daily but burning only 2000 will gain weight at the rate of about 1lb a week.

You can do quite a lot to speed up your metabolism – the secret of burning calories lies in knowing what determines your metabolic rate and what you can do to influence it.
