Pakistani singers Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar, once friends and collaborators in the entertainment industry, have remained locked in a legal battle for years after allegations of harassment surfaced in 2018.
Eight years ago, Meesha Shafi publicly accused Ali Zafar of sexual harassment, claiming he had inappropriately touched her during a professional interaction. The allegation emerged at a time when the global Me Too movement was encouraging women to speak out about harassment and abuse. Meesha said she chose to come forward so that the reality she experienced could be known.
The accusation led to a long legal dispute between the two artists. While Meesha pursued harassment allegations, Ali Zafar filed a defamation case against her, stating that the claims had damaged his reputation and career. The case went through numerous hearings over the years.

On March 31, a sessions court delivered its verdict in the defamation case, ruling in favor of Ali Zafar. According to the court’s decision, the singer was not found guilty of harassment. The court also ordered Meesha Shafi to pay Rs5 million in damages for defaming Ali Zafar.
In its ruling, the court observed that Meesha Shafi did not appear in court and was unable to provide sufficient evidence in support of her claims. Meanwhile, Ali Zafar presented his witnesses before the court, which the court considered during the proceedings.
Ali Zafar shared a message on Instagram expressing gratitude after the decision. He wrote, “Grateful to God and to everyone who stood by me and by the truth during some testing times in my life. Justice has finally been done. I feel no triumph, only humility and gratitude. I hold no ill feelings toward anyone. For me, this chapter is now closed. I pray we can all move forward with grace and peace.”

Meesha Shafi also addressed the situation through a series of Instagram stories. She shared poetry focused on women’s empowerment and spoke about moving toward healing after experiencing trauma. In her posts, she suggested she intends to focus on her work to recover and move forward.
The high-profile case has remained one of the most widely discussed legal disputes in Pakistan’s entertainment industry, drawing public attention for years. With the court’s latest ruling, the legal chapter between the two artists appears to have reached a decisive point, though the wider conversation surrounding harassment and accountability in the industry continues.
