Pakistani actor Saba Qamar is facing potential legal action after a petition was filed seeking the registration of a case against her for the alleged unauthorised use of a police uniform during a video shoot.
The petition was filed before a local court in Lahore and argues that Qamar appeared in official police attire without securing the required permission from authorities. According to the petitioner, such use violates established rules governing the display and use of official uniforms, particularly those associated with law enforcement.
The matter was taken up by Lahore District Courts, where Additional Sessions Judge Ilyas Rehan heard preliminary arguments related to the video, which has circulated widely on social media platforms.
The petitioner, Wasim Zawar, told the court that the actor appeared in a dressing room scene wearing a police uniform and displaying an SP rank badge. He argued that the depiction created the impression of an official role and could mislead the public, especially when shared online without context or authorization.
Zawar maintained that wearing a police uniform, particularly one bearing senior rank insignia, requires a no-objection certificate from the relevant police authorities. He told the court that this requirement applies regardless of whether the uniform is worn for a film, video, or promotional shoot.
According to the petition, Zawar had previously approached the Old Anarkali police station and submitted an application requesting the registration of a case over the matter. However, he told the court that no action was taken on that request, prompting him to seek judicial intervention.
The petition asks the court to direct the police to register a case and investigate whether laws regulating the use of official uniforms were violated. It also raises concerns about accountability and the potential normalization of unauthorized use of state symbols in entertainment content.
During the hearing, the judge reviewed the petitioner’s objections and the circumstances surrounding the video. No representative for Qamar publicly addressed the allegations during the proceedings, and the court did not issue any immediate orders.
After hearing the initial arguments, Judge Ilyas Rehan adjourned the matter, scheduling the next hearing for January 14. The court is expected to consider whether the petition warrants further legal action or directions to law enforcement.
Qamar, one of Pakistan’s most prominent actors, has not publicly commented on the petition as of now. The case has drawn attention on social media, where opinions are divided between those calling for strict enforcement of uniform regulations and others arguing for artistic freedom in scripted productions.
The legal proceedings remain at an early stage, and no charges have been formally registered so far.
