Over the last four years Coke Studio has offered its audiences across the globe a unique view into traditional, classical and contemporary music in Pakistan. The 2011 sessions continue the journey that began with Coke Studio 2008, reflecting the depth of musical diversity in the country; from obscure indigenous folk music in regional languages and dialects to mainstream popular contemporary numbers, spotlighting less well-known artists alongside the widely acclaimed and paying tribute to some of the many cherished artists that make up the fabric of our musical legacy. This Season also includes a series of performances that highlight a cross-section of Eastern classical forms of music, in signature Coke Studio sessions that reinvent the musical environs of the genre yet preserve the intrinsic musical values and integrity of the art form.

As the Season comes to a close, Rohail Hyatt, producer Coke Studio shares his unique perspective: “At the start of every season I am as unsure as anyone else when it comes to predicting what lies ahead. The process of recognizing a potential discovery is so instinctive that it is only once the Coke Studio experience has been lived, discoveries shared with the world and a response shared in return that we are able to evaluate what has passed. We do know that the love that we send out to our audiences and the love that each passing season elicits in response are closely balanced – and there can be no greater reward. For this we are grateful.

There is, of course, a wonderful sense of achievement and pride associated with the fact that Coke Studio, an indigenous platform, has been inspirational to the degree that the concept is now being adapted in other parts of the world. I am excited by the prospect of witnessing the diversity of musical interpretation that this will give rise to.

Personally, working on Coke Studio has been a wonderful experience – as always. With each Season, inspiration is stimulated afresh by musical discoveries, new relationships are forged within the flow of artists and my close bond with the musicians of the House Band is repeatedly strengthened.

For my part and on behalf of my entire team, I would like to thank Coke Studio audiences – in Pakistan and all over the world – for their appreciation of our efforts, for their support and encouragement and for sharing with us their valuable feedback and suggestions. We thank you, and hope that the Coke Studio Sessions of 2011 bring you continuing joy and peace. We also hope that Coke Studio inspires you to venture out and experience your own unique journeys.”
