Former Pakistani pop star and businesswoman Rabi Pirzada has publicly spoken for the first time about a chapter of her life she had kept entirely private: a secret marriage and subsequent divorce.
The 35-year-old disclosed during a recent appearance on Excuse Me with Ahmed Ali Butt, marking the first time she has addressed the subject publicly. Pirzada confirmed that she had been married and later sought Khula, an Islamic right that allows a woman to initiate divorce.
“I was married, but I got Khula. People don’t know about my marriage because I am sharing it for the very first time. I haven’t spoken publicly about my divorce before,” she said during the interview.
Pirzada chose not to reveal the identity of her former husband and made it clear she does not wish to assign blame. Instead, she framed the separation as a turning point that brought relief to both parties.
“I won’t talk negatively about anyone, but one day I decided to take Khula after what happened in that relationship. It was the end of my miseries and maybe his as well. Maybe I will remarry in the future,” she added.
The former singer, who now runs her modest fashion brand Haya by Rabi Pirzada, also reflected on the circumstances that led to her marriage. According to Pirzada, the decision was heavily influenced by family expectations rather than personal choice.
“I regret marrying under the pressure of my parents. It was a watta satta marriage, an exchange marriage, which made things complicated,” she said, referring to a traditional arrangement in which families exchange marriages between relatives.
Pirzada first rose to fame as a pop singer in the Pakistani music industry, capturing widespread attention with her hit debut song “Dadi Kuri.” Her bold persona and outspoken nature quickly made her a household name, particularly among younger audiences.
However, her career took a dramatic turn in late 2019 when private photos and videos of her were leaked on social media. The incident sparked intense public scrutiny and criticism, ultimately prompting her to leave the entertainment industry altogether. Following that period, Pirzada announced she was stepping away from show business and redirecting her life toward religious study and personal growth.
Since then, she has maintained a lower public profile, focusing on business ventures and faith-based content. Her recent interview offered a rare glimpse into her personal struggles beyond the controversies that once dominated headlines.
By choosing to speak openly now, Pirzada appears intent on reclaiming her narrative, addressing long-standing rumors while maintaining dignity and restraint. Her comments about the possibility of remarriage suggest she is open to the future, but on her own terms.
The candid revelation has resonated with many viewers, particularly women who face similar pressures around marriage and societal expectations. For Pirzada, the decision to finally speak seems less about revisiting the past and more about closing a chapter she says brought hardship, and moving forward with clarity and independence.
