Pakistani television star Maya Khan has long been admired for her versatility on screen and her warmth off it. From her early breakthrough in the PTV drama Aik Muhabbat So Afsaney to becoming a household name through her hugely popular Samaa TV morning show, she has built a career marked by reinvention and resilience. In recent years, she has continued to win praise for her performances in dramas such as Mayi Ri, Kabhi Main Kabhi Tum, and most recently Baray Bhaiyya, where her portrayal of Waniya earned widespread appreciation.
Beyond acting and hosting, Maya has also carved out a space as a businesswoman. She runs her own herbal brand, has recently written a book, and is preparing to launch her own podcast on digital media. On the surface, her journey looks like one of steady success. But in a recent appearance on Nadia Khan’s morning show Rise and Shine, Maya revealed a painful chapter of her personal life that many fans were unaware of.
Joining the show via Zoom, Maya spoke openly about the financial and emotional trauma she endured during her previous marriage. She shared that her ex-husband took away the money she had worked hard to save. “My savings were taken from me in my previous life; all my money was snatched by that man,” she said. She explained that she did not stay silent about what happened and tried to fight back through legal means. “I had spoken up about it everywhere and had all the proofs. I visited courts for two years, yet I couldn’t recover my hard-earned money.”

Maya acknowledged that some people questioned why she did not take her story to the media at the time, but she said trauma often leaves a person unable to think strategically. “You’re right, I could have gone to the media, but when a person goes through trauma, such things don’t come to mind,” she admitted.
She also described how difficult it was to navigate the court system as a public figure. “I was literally suffering during my court days because when famous people like us go to court while covering our faces and people still recognize us, it becomes a cultural shock to see ourselves in such a weak position,” she said.
Her honesty struck a chord with viewers, many of whom praised her courage for speaking about an experience that remains taboo for many women. While Maya Khan continues to move forward with new creative and professional projects, her words served as a reminder that behind the spotlight, even successful public figures can carry deep personal battles.
