Former television actress Komal Aziz has spoken candidly about why she left the entertainment industry, revealing that her departure was driven by difficult working conditions rather than financial issues.
Aziz, best known for her roles in Bharosa Yar Tera and Raaz e Ulfat, appeared recently on Ahmed Ali Butt’s podcast, where she reflected on her decision to step away from acting four years ago.
“Honestly, the showbiz environment isn’t good for an educated person,” she said during the interview, adding that the pressures and atmosphere on set made it an unsuitable career for her long-term.
Aziz emphasized that, contrary to speculation, delayed payments were not the reason for her exit. Instead, she cited grueling schedules, unhealthy conditions, and the lack of intellectual stimulation as her main concerns. “It was the uncomfortable environment and inhumane working hours that prompted me to quit showbiz,” she explained.
The actress said she had initially been warned that the industry was unsafe and toxic for women, but did not find that to be true in terms of personal safety. Instead, her frustrations grew from the daily realities of set life. She pointed to poor hygiene, the absence of timely meals, and constant backstage politics as major challenges.
“Eventually, I realized I wanted to be around highly educated people,” Aziz said, adding that the entertainment world did not provide the kind of company she sought. That realization pushed her toward building a different career.
Today, Aziz has shifted her focus to entrepreneurship and runs her own clothing line, Omal by Komal. She said the move has allowed her to create a healthier and more fulfilling environment for herself.
Her comments have reignited conversations about working standards in Pakistan’s entertainment industry. Many actors have previously spoken about the lack of proper facilities on set, long shooting hours, and the pressure to compromise on personal well-being. Aziz’s account adds to a growing call for reforms that could make the profession more sustainable for performers.
Despite her criticisms, Aziz did not dismiss the value of her years in television, acknowledging that her time on screen gave her recognition and a platform. Still, she made clear that her priorities had shifted toward a lifestyle that promotes balance and personal growth.
By sharing her reasons publicly, Aziz has provided insight into the less glamorous side of showbiz while highlighting the importance of mental and physical well-being in any career.
