Humaira Asghar Case Takes Turn as Karachi Court Calls for Murder Investigation

The Karachi court has directed that a murder case be registered over the death of actress and model Humaira Asghar, whose decomposed body was discovered earlier this year under mysterious circumstances.

The order was issued by the Additional District and Sessions Judge (South), Karachi, following a petition alleging that Asghar was murdered and urging that “the relevant persons, including her makeup artist, should also be included in the investigation.”

After reviewing the police report and arguments presented by the petitioner’s lawyer, the court concluded, “In light of the available records, a cognizable offence has been committed. Therefore, a case should be registered by recording the statements of Humaira Asghar’s family and the state.”

Asghar’s body was found on July 8 inside a flat in Ittehad Commercial, Karachi. The discovery came when the landlord, seeking action for non-payment of rent, obtained a court order. A bailiff forced open the door and uncovered the remains, reports The Express Tribune.

The post-mortem revealed the body was in the final stages of decomposition, suggesting the actress had died nearly eight months earlier. Authorities confirmed that she had not been seen publicly since late 2024.

Investigators noted that Asghar had been experiencing financial difficulties. Her last known commercial shoot took place in September 2024, and she maintained professional contacts through October of that year.

Chemical analysis conducted at the flat introduced another puzzling detail. Officials reported that five frozen samples taken from the residence contained sea salt, which is commonly used to mask odours and repel insects. However, the salt found in the kitchen differed from those samples. Investigators suggested “this detail may provide new angles to the case.”

Further inquiry also revealed unusual activity surrounding her phone. Authorities said the device remained active until October 2024, even after she stopped responding to repeated calls from her makeup artist. Additionally, her WhatsApp profile picture was deleted, raising further suspicion about who may have accessed the account during that period.

The court’s directive signals a shift toward formally investigating the death as a possible homicide. Police will now be required to register a case, take statements from family members, and pursue any leads connected to her professional and personal circles.

Asghar’s death has drawn widespread public concern, particularly within Pakistan’s entertainment industry, where colleagues and fans have demanded clarity. With the case now under judicial order, investigators are expected to intensify efforts to uncover what truly happened to the actress.
