Renowned Pakistani actress Aamina Sheikh, celebrated for her standout performances in dramas such as Maat, Pakeeza, Uraan, Main Abdul Qadir Hoon, and Daam, has finally broken her silence on her long hiatus from the entertainment industry. After a seven-year break following her divorce from actor Mohib Mirza, the acclaimed actress has made a powerful comeback with her latest project, Case No. 9, earning praise from fans and critics alike.
In a candid interview on Maliha Rehman’s YouTube show, Aamina opened up about her personal journey, the struggles behind her decision to step away from acting, and the life changes that led to her return. She explained that her departure from show business was not a career choice but a necessity driven by major personal upheavals.
“I have revealed all the reasons behind quitting acting,” Aamina said. “I went through a major transition in my personal life. Yes, divorce was a major reason — my marriage didn’t work out. I had a baby in my arms and needed time to recover from everything.”
The actress revealed that after her separation, she chose to move abroad with her daughter, Missa. Being a U.S. citizen, Aamina found it easier to relocate and rebuild her life in a supportive environment. “I also had opportunities abroad; I am a U.S. citizen, my daughter is a citizen, and my family was already settled there, so moving to the U.S. was a convenient option,” she said.
Aamina admitted that the emotional turmoil surrounding her personal life, which was closely tied to the media industry, became overwhelming. “My personal life was deeply connected to the media industry, which is why I needed a complete break from it. So much drama and toxicity were happening around me that I couldn’t process,” she shared.
She emphasized that her main priority during that period was to protect and nurture her daughter. “I had to protect my baby while nursing her, so I went to the U.S. for a while. My family supported me immensely — they helped me restructure my thoughts and realize that I had lost so much time, and it was time to take action and rebuild myself.”
After regaining stability, Aamina moved to Dubai, where she later met her husband, Umer. Reflecting on her second marriage, she said, “Our families were involved, and things went smoothly. It was my parents’ guidance and involvement that made it an intentional and practical decision — not an impulsive one.”
With her heartfelt return to acting, Aamina Sheikh’s resilience and honesty have resonated deeply with her audience, marking a new chapter in her remarkable career.
