PFDC Fashion Week
The Pakistan Fashion Design Council was established in September 2006 as the only fashion council in Pakistan, with its head office in Lahore. A non-profit organization, the PFDC was conceived with the aim to help facilitate Pakistani designers. To this end, the Council acts as a mouthpiece for the industry, representing and promoting Pakistani designers at all levels, both domestically and internationally. The PFDC includes over 66 members from across the country.
The success of these fashion weeks helped to pave the way for Pakistan to be represented at the prestigious Federation Françoise du Prêt a Porter Feminine in Paris in September 2011 where eight Pakistani designers were invited to hold an exclusive fashion show, along with an exhibition in a pavilion at The Atmosphère (where designers can show their collections only on an invitation).
The World Fashion Organization and World Fashion Week has signed an MOU with the PFDC thereby empowering the PFDC as WFW-WFO’s official representative in Pakistan. In line with their commitment to social responsibility as a council, this April the PFDC has partnered with the United Nations World Food Programme [UN-WFP] to create awareness about food insecurity and malnutrition.
The PFDC has mastered retail by recently relocating to a bigger flagship multi brand outlet with 9500 square feet of space at Mall 1 on the Main Boulevard in Lahore where 40 fashion designers are stocking. They are now launching the PFDC High Street also at Mall 1 – the first multi brand store for high street retails brands in Pakistan. Further, the council is also present in Karachi through their retail store, The PFDC Fashion Avenue, at the Dolmen City Mall in Karachi.
The PFDC is also the first Pakistani brand to have expanded into the Indian market with its own brand name and standalone multi-label retail store, representing Pakistani designers franchised by Rubaaiyat by Mini Bindra of BV’s (Bindra Ventures). Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) is the pioneering fashion institute that takes emerging fashion designers in the limelight and earns them fame. The joint venture of PFDC and Sunsilk came forward with PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week 2011 and of PFDC and L’Oréal Paris with a vibrant PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2011 and now PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2012.
Culturally, in any Pakistani wedding, the bride is always the focus, with her outfit and colour palette, Make-up, accessories and overall bridal look chosen in keeping with the belief that a bride is to be the most beautiful woman for that special day. Bridal fashion remains the most influential and primary form of fashion and style within Pakistan today. To this end, PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2012 endeavors to define and present both contemporary and traditional Pakistani bridal fashion, jewellery and Make-up trends, fusing to create the ‘Look’ for the bridal season 2012 - 2013.
Showcasing bridal trends for 2013 will be leading names and brands from within the fashion and jewellery industry. PFDC L’Oréal Paris Bridal Week 2012 will also be featuring individual Make-up artists each day, who will be presenting their interpretation of bridal Make-up trends on their respective days.
