Traditionally, foods eaten in Ramadan for the sehri and iftar are light, nutritious meals containing fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. Foods that are light and nutritious are ideal during Ramadan. Breads, soups, fresh fruits and vegetables are the perfect way to begin and end the daily fast. Dates are very significant in Ramadan and are often eaten at iftari.
Even though the thought of sleep may be far more appealing than waking up to force down some food, don't skip sehri. Sehri is a blessed meal. Our Holy Prophet (saw) said “Eat Sehri as there are blessings in Sehri” (Bukhari and Muslim).
Foods have benefits that can't be replicated by a pill. It is thus important to eat a wide variety of foods at sehri and iftari, so as to ensure that we get all of these nutrients in Ramadan.
Iftar is done right after Maghrib (sunset) time. Iftar, refers to the evening meal for breaking the daily fast during the Islamic month of Ramadan.
One should keep food intake at sehr and iftari very light in order to have a healthy Ramadan.
